Transport and Distance: What It Costs to Bring a Car from Each Country to Spain (2026)

Transport is one of the line items that varies most by country of origin, and it is often underestimated when calculating the real savings of importing. The farther the pickup point and the larger the vehicle, the bigger the transporter bill. Here is a directional cost comparison by country of origin.

Why distance is not the only factor

Car-transporter pricing depends on distance, yes, but also on the size and weight of the vehicle, on whether it travels grouped with other cars on the same route (which lowers the per-unit cost) or as a dedicated shipment, and on how many regular routes run between the pickup point and Spain. A car collected near a well-travelled corridor (Frankfurt-Barcelona, for instance) is usually cheaper to move than one in a less-served area, even at a similar distance in kilometres.

Directional cost by country of origin

  • Belgium: the closest origin of the four to Spain; transporter cost typically EUR 300-450 for an average passenger car.
  • France: distance varies a lot by region; EUR 250-450 from northern and central France, somewhat less from the south.
  • Germany: EUR 350-600 depending on the region (cheaper from the south-west, pricier from the north or east of the country).
  • Netherlands: the furthest origin of the four; EUR 400-600 for an average passenger car.

Large or high-value vehicles: a cost apart

For large SUVs, off-roaders or high-value cars — where an enclosed transporter is worth the extra cost for weather and transit-damage protection over an open one — the price can run 30-50% above the figures above, regardless of country of origin. Budget for this extra if you are importing a premium or collector car.

Alternative: collecting the car yourself

If the budget is tight and you have the time, flying out and driving the car back to Spain is an alternative to a transporter, though it means covering temporary transit insurance, fuel and tolls, and the travel time itself (1 to 3 days depending on origin). For trips from Belgium or northern France, this option is usually competitive against a transporter; from the Netherlands or northern Germany, the savings shrink considerably.

What to always include in a transport budget

  • Transit insurance covering the vehicle's full value, not just a legal minimum.
  • Estimated transit time, which can range from 3 to 10 days depending on the route and carrier.
  • Delivery documentation (condition report with photos at loading and unloading), essential if you need to claim for damage.
Transport looks like a minor line item next to the price of the car, but on a mid-range vehicle it can represent 2-4% of your total savings. Budget it properly from the start.

Caralyze includes fully insured transport in one fixed price, whichever of the four countries the car comes from.
